REDDAlerts explained

REDDAlerts are status updates, something like the ones that you may be used to using on some 'other' social networking sites. The idea is to get everyone who is working on, or interested in, REDD to share regular, brief updates about what they're doing, thinking, reading, etc. Anything, really, as long as it relates to REDD.

Here's how it works. To the left here, you can see all of the latest updates, in reverse order of posting.  The updates use something called 'hashtags,' which work just like regular tags, meaning that you can click on one to see all updates sharing that tag. You can also see a list of the most popular hashtags here on the right. We think one of the most interesting hashtags is '#reddwork'. This is where users can let each other know exactly what aspect of REDD they're working on right now. It's a great way to let other users know what you're up to and to find other 'REDD people' who are working on similar things. Other hashtags can be for countries (#indonesia, #tanzania) or themes (#biodiversity).

To post your own REDDAlert,all you need to do is: (1) Create a redd-plus.com account, (2) Login, (3) Click on "Update my REDDAlert status" in the main navigation menu. Also, in one of our newest features, you can choose to post your REDDAlerts directly to your Twitter account. To do so, you first need to go to the Edit / Twitter Account tab under 'My Account', where you can create the link to your Twitter account. Then, whenever you post a REDDAlert, you simply check a box if you want the same message to post to your Twitter account.
